Spring starts on paper today. Your coat can stay on.
Start of spring opens the traditional year. The weather usually hasn't heard yet.
spring arrives on the calendar, the soil is still deciding
Today is Risshun, the start of spring in the old Japanese calendar. Many seasonal customs count the year from this day, even though early February is often still cold.
Under the soil, though, some things are already moving. Butterbur shoots, one of the first wild greens of the year in Japan, begin pushing up around now, long before anyone notices them.
You don't need a visible change today either. Write one new plan on a piece of paper, open a window for a minute, and keep your coat on. Spring has started. It is just taking its time.
Try this today
- Write down one small plan for the coming season
- Open a window for one minute
- Keep your coat on anyway
