No. 78

Loosen something tight. Your collar, your belt, your grip.

A small physical loosening can quietly tell your whole body to stand down.

We spend a lot of the day slightly braced. A collar buttoned to the top, a belt a notch too tight, a waistband pressing in. Small constrictions we stop noticing, even as they keep our bodies subtly on guard.

So loosen one of them. Undo the top button. Slide the belt out a notch. Kick off the shoes that have been quietly pinching since morning. It sounds almost too simple, but the body takes the hint. Less squeezing means less bracing.

This works for more than clothing. If your jaw is clenched, let it drop. If your shoulders are up by your ears, let them fall. Find one tight thing, physical or otherwise, and give it a little more room. Then notice the small, honest relief that follows.
