No. 74

Made a small mistake? Erase it gently, like pencil.

A small slip isn't worth carrying all day. Rub it out and move on.

There's a reason pencils come with erasers. Mistakes are expected. They're built into the tool. You write, you slip, you rub it out, and the paper is ready again. Nobody treats a pencil mark as permanent damage.

Yet with our own small mistakes, we often do the opposite. We replay them, we reread them, we carry them around for hours. A clumsy reply, a forgotten errand, a wrong turn. Small in size, heavy only because we keep gripping them.

Today, try treating your small mistakes the way a pencil treats them. Notice the slip once, acknowledge it, then erase it and write the next line. You don't have to be flawless. You just have to keep going, lightly. That's allowed.

Try this today

  • Name the small mistake once, then let it drop
  • Move to the next thing instead of rereading it
  • Tell yourself plainly: that's allowed
