No. 66

Look at the farthest point you can see today.

Your eyes spend all day focused on things within arm's reach. Give them distance.

Think about what your eyes have been doing all day. Screen, book, phone, keyboard, plate. Everything within a meter or two. Your eye muscles have been locked in close-focus mode for hours, and they're tired in a way you don't consciously register.

Today, find a window or step outside and look at the farthest thing you can see. A rooftop, a hill, a cloud, the edge of the sky where it meets the buildings. Let your gaze go soft. Don't try to read signs or identify details. Just look far.

This is rest for your eyes, but it's also rest for your mind. When you look at something distant, your thoughts tend to loosen their grip too. The mental zoom-out follows the physical one. For a moment, the close-up problems feel a little smaller, a little further away.

Try this today

  • Look out a window at the farthest point visible and hold your gaze for thirty seconds
  • Step outside and look at the sky for one full minute
  • Practice the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds
