Fortune

有魚臨旱池

踊躍入波濤

隔中須有望

先且慮塵労

In English

  • A fish faces a pond gone dry
  • it leaps and dives into the waves
  • though apart, hope should remain
  • but first, mind the worldly cares
Meaning
The poem ends by telling you to see to everyday cares first. Like a fish leaping from a drying pond into the waves, hope is still there, but small hassles close to home are worth clearing before you jump.
What to do today
Write down three small chores that have piled up, and finish one.
A word from the capybara
Bravely moved from a shallow pond to a big river.

The explanations added by each temple differ. The poems and fortunes follow an Edo-period printed edition.
