No. 80

On a heavy morning, just sit up. That's enough to start.

When everything feels like too much, lower the first step to almost nothing.

Some mornings arrive heavy. Before you've even moved, the whole day seems to pile onto your chest: everything you should do, everywhere you should be, everyone you might let down. On days like that, the usual advice to get up and get going can feel impossible.

So don't aim for the whole day. Aim for one small thing: just sit up. Get your back off the mattress and your feet near the floor. That's it. That's the entire goal for now. You're allowed to sit there, blurry and unhurried, for as long as you need.

Heavy mornings lie. They tell you the weight is permanent, but it almost always lifts a little once you've moved, even slightly. Lower the bar until it's nearly on the ground. Sit up. The next small step will show itself when you're ready.

Try this today

  • Make sitting up your only goal for now
  • Let the rest of the day stay blurry
  • Take the next small step only when you're ready
