Sit down fully. Let the seat take all your weight.
Most of us sit only halfway. Today, let the chair hold you completely.
Watch how people sit and you'll notice most of us never fully arrive. We perch on the edge, half-ready to spring up, holding some of our own weight as if relaxing completely would be a kind of surrender. The body stays braced even while seated.
Today, try sitting all the way down. Find a chair, a cushion, the floor, anywhere comfortable. Settle back and consciously let go of your own weight, handing it over to the seat beneath you. Feel where your body makes contact and let it sink in. The chair can hold you. It's designed to. You don't have to help.
Take a few slow breaths there, fully supported, holding nothing up. It's surprising how much effort we put into bracing against rest. Let the seat do its job, and notice the quiet that arrives when you finally stop holding yourself up.
Try this today
- Sit all the way back into a chair or cushion
- Let the seat take your full weight
- Take a few slow breaths, holding nothing up
