Let birds start your morning.
A morning that begins with birds, not alarms, is its own small luxury.
Alarms force your heart rate up. Your phone, opened the second you wake, dumps an avalanche of information into a freshly-conscious brain. Most people sprint into the day without warming up.
If you can hear birds from where you live, that's an environment worth noticing. Birds are nature's alarm. Different species, different rhythms, different combinations every morning. Try counting how many distinct calls you can pick out, just for fun.
Today, if you can, don't grab the phone first thing. Open a window. Let in air, light, and bird sounds. Your day's opening tone shifts, just a little, toward gentle. The phone notifications can wait five minutes; they really can.
Try this today
- Open a window before reaching for your phone
- Try to identify how many bird calls you hear
- Take a five-minute morning walk listening for birds
